I have some Paint by Number Deer that I am not sure if I should use or sell..... and then there is my Flea Market Fancy...... I also have lots of African fabrics that are so sentimental - that I have to think of the *perfect* project for them before I can start using them.

The mistakes I made when purchasing fabric - well, I usually buy online and it's relatively easy to misunderstand what the color is going to be or get the scale wrong. I am still trying to work out what amount to buy - because fat quarters are great because you can get this little piece and not to commit to a ton of yardage - but it's usually not enough if you want to do something other than quilt with it. A long time ago, if I liked a fabric, I would buy 2 yds of it - and now I realize that that was WAY too much! It's hard for me to get the amount right.

What works for me? Comparison shopping - even though the price of cotton is rising - i have still been able to find the newest lines and get lots of good deals. I pretty much will buy from any online source - and I haven't had a problem yet.

I am definitely looking forward to Joel dewberry's Heirloom line and Sarah Jane's 1st collection for Michael Miller.

Lovely post bytheway - I am drooling over those painter's canvases!!!!!Dresden Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11632349361326747545noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-867458032580673567.post-65136223995554029192011-05-30T20:27:17.492-04:002011-05-30T20:27:17.492-04:00Hmm . . . well, I also have some batiks and 1930&#...Hmm . . . well, I also have some batiks and 1930's stuff left over from when I first started collecting, although I made a baby quilt of the 30's stuff for my friend.

I was starting to get bad about hoarding fabric, and almost becoming afraid to make things in case I "use up" all my fabric. But then I realized, you know what, I got this fabric because I love to sew it into things, not just because I like the look of it on a shelf. And you know what, I"m always happy to see a favorite fabric peeking out of a basket or laying on my kids' bed or as part of a quilt I made. My new mantra is "I bought it to use it, so use it".

The line I'm really sad I missed out on, and thought about buying several times but didn't was Tula Pink's Full Moon Forest -- it is amazing. The one I have the most trouble cutting into is my AMH Garden Party, and my Heather Bailey's Freshcut. I tend to get a project in my head, and I don't want to break up the fabric I have in my head for that project, even if I'm not going to make it for a long time, and I could use some of the fabric for something else. Instead I "save" it in a corner somewhere.

As for what I"m looking forward to: mostly the Louthlouthi (especially the dots) and Lizzy House's Outfoxed.

I often wonder what makes something "a hit" or not, too. Sometimes I think its just that big profile bloggers get excited about it, but sometimes that backfires, too. Some designers kind of develop cult followings, while others, whose fabric I like just as much, never seem to get as much buzz. It's funny, isn't it?Jillyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11293324718529774171noreply@blogger.com
